(Rotary International & District Mandates)

Previous page

Often described as the “Heartbeat of Rotary”, Community Service includes the scope of activities which Rotarians under take to improve the quality of life in their community.

Community Service is an opportunity for every Rotarian to exemplify “Service above self”. It is the commitment and social responsibility of every Rotarian and Rotary Club to improve the quality of life for those who live in the community and to serve the public interest.

We urge every Rotarian to participate in all activities which make his Community a better place in which to live.

The areas that we will be focusing on this year are:

Clothing For The Poor – Collection drive on for new and used clothing for distribution by the Salvation Army etc. This will be ongoing.

The Flankers Health Centre – This was chosen as our Centennial Project.
Our plan is to expand, upgrade and modernize to at least a type 2 Health Centre.

  • Expand waiting area with seating facilities.
  • Extension of the current examination room
  • A second examination room
  • Tiling of the floor
  • A file & Records Keeping room
  • Bathroom/washroom
  • Extension of the Dental Room
  • Pharmacy/Lab room
  • Dressing area
  • This project is to be completed by February 2005 to coincide with 100 years of service by Rotary.

Spring Mount Basic School – This is the President’s Project. We will be assisting them with refurbishing of the building and other items of necessity.

Dental Program – This is ongoing, this year we will be hosting International Dentists to visit Flankers and Mt. Carey Dental Clinics. These clinics were both set up by this club.

The Montego Bay Home For Girls – This will be a part of our Community Service this year; they will be supplied with schoolbooks, clothing and other items to suit their needs.

Road Safety Signs – These signs will be erected near to schools in the community. Contact will be made to Insurance Companies & other Companies to assist in this area. This will provide advertisement for these companies as well as protecting our children on the roads.
