Soil, Environmental, and Atmospheric Sciences

Department contact:
124 Anheuser-Busch Natural Resources Center
573-882-1730

Degrees:
Bachelor of Science in Soil, Environmental, and Atmospheric Sciences (Emphasis area to be selected by the student)
Minor in Soil, Environmental, and Atmospheric Sciences

Overview:
The Soil Science emphasis area helps students develop a knowledge and understanding of the classification, physical properties, chemistry, and fertility of soils in order to make agriculture more productive and to protect the environment.

In the Environmental Science emphasis, students learn that sustainable land management, water quality, and air quality are crucial for the future of the Earth. Learning to manage, use and sustain natural resources through sound ecological and economic approaches is the focus of the environmental science program. If you are interested in understanding ecosystems, teaching the general public about these topics, or advising government leaders on how to shape environmental policy, then you might consider an interdisciplinary degree in environmental science.

Students in the diverse field of Atmospheric Science study three elements critical for plants and animals to survive: rain, sunlight and oxygen. Through the Atmospheric Science emphasis, students learn to interpret and formulate accurate weather forecasts used by the general public, corporations and the military.
