Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics offers the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree, with or without  teaching certification:
BA or BS with a Mathematics major without teaching certification,
BA or BS with a Mathematics major with Teaching certification,
BS in Applied Mathematics.
We also offer a  Pre-engineering program.

The Major in Mathematics requires 17 credit hours in core courses and 15 additional credit hours which vary with the student's program.
The Minor in mathematics without teaching certification requires at least 17 hours in mathematics courses. This must include Math 2471, 2472 and at least three courses in the 3000-4000 level other than 3315, 4302, 4304, 4311. Students who want to have Mathematics as a second teaching filed must complete the mathematics courses for the Mathematics Major except for MATH 4311.

All TXSTATE students must complete a mathematics course at the level of college algebra or higher. To satisfy this requirement, the Department of Mathematics offers a variety of courses including Math 1315, 1316, and 1319. These three courses require one of the following scores: at least 480 on the SAT, or at least 21 on the ACT, or at least 270 on the TASP, or at least 26 on the mathematics placement exam offered by University Testing Center. If this prerequisite is not met, students need to take Math 1311, and if needed Math 1300.

Please see the catalog description of the undergraduate courses.
