More than a "cooking school," Johnson & Wales offers a culinary career education with a full university experience.
Since 1973, our culinary education has evolved to be the most respected in the world, creating chefs who are leaders in the field. From our International Baking & Pastry Institute, the first of its kind in the world — to our unique culinary nutrition program, the first of its kind to receive accreditation by the American Dietetic Association — JWU continues to set the standard for culinary education and excellence.
As a further testament to our quality of culinary education, all AS degree graduates will receive first-level ACF certification, a distinction normally required for industry professionals who must pass a test.
Furthermore, we offer the broadest selection of culinary-related majors and a world of exciting career options in the fast-growing culinary and hospitality industries.

Two degrees in four years
At the College of Culinary Arts, you can receive two degrees in four years — an associate after the first two and bachelor’s after the second two.
Note: Baking & Pastry Arts students must complete the first-year Culinary Arts laboratory portion of the Culinary Arts Advanced Standing program; FSM2050 Personalized Nutrition Management, and sophomore culinary laboratory term, prior to entering the Culinary Nutrition bachelor of science degree program.
Career Courses
Johnson & Wales educates you to be a successful, complete culinary professional. This includes preparing you to professionally manage your own path to success with proven Career Management Courses — courses you won't find at other culinary schools that are an important part of your J&W curriculum. Beginning in your first year and continuing throughout your program of study, these courses provide the skills you'll need to take your career where you want it to go — ensuring that you'll graduate with an edge in the increasingly competitive culinary industry.
First year
In Introduction to Career Management, career coaches will help you explore the many career options and paths available with your degree. You’ll learn how to
• Use the Career Passport System and charts documenting required career skills and trends in the workplace, as tools for goal-setting
• Write a resumé, cover letter and reference sheet
• Interview and search for jobs, including web site searches like erecruiting.com accessible to students, alumni and employers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• Prepare for and find hands-on learning experiences
Second year
Career Planning assesses your progress in developing your Career Passport System and identifies what else is needed to reach your goals. You’ll learn the value of your co-op experience and how to use employer feedback on your performance to set new goals for self-improvement.
Third or fourth year
Career Management Capstone helps you focus on completing your Career Passport System. You’ll learn about candidate recruitment and the tests often required in the selection process. You’ll also learn about financial responsibility, life planning and career management. You’ll ultimately develop job search tools (e.g. resumés, cover letters and portfolios) and strategies (e.g. attending On-Campus Recruiting and searching erecruiting.com) to help you throughout your career.
